She got back on the bus, visibly shaken, and a passenger brought up her winter coat, wrapping it around the baby while authorities were called. Ivic stopped the bus immediately upon seeing her and ran across a busy road to grab the girl, who was less than two years old. This is the ninth lost or missing child found by MCTS Drivers in recent years.“Oh my God, I was so upset and I couldn’t believe that somebody can, left the child on the street,” Ivic said in a ceremony held in her honor this week “Baby was so scared and cried, and she didn’t know what to do, where to go.” Irena said she is just grateful that she was able to help. Originally from Serbia, Ivic has lived in Milwaukee for over a decade and been an employee of MCTS for the past five. Authorities eventually reunited the baby with its father. Police say the child had been left outside by its mother who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis. Besides being cold and scared, the baby was unharmed. Irena comforted the terrified youngster, who soon fell asleep in her loving arms.įirefighters, police officers, and transit security officers arrived at the scene a short time later. The child was cold to the touch after spending time outside in the freezing temperatures. Irena stopped her bus, ran across the busy street, picked up the crying child, and carried the little one to safety.Īs Irena called for help, a passenger gave up her coat to help keep the baby warm. The child, who appeared to be less than one-year-old, was barefoot and wearing just a onesie and diaper.
